The external independent audit EqualDose, from the European Society for Therapeutic Radiation and Oncology (ESTRO), has been performed on the radiotherapy planning and treatment delivery systems at our Medical Physics and Radiation Protection Service.
ESTRO EqualDose is an independent and voluntary quality assurance (QA) tool program for dose calculation verifications for radiotherapy techniques. A set of detectors are sent to the centre to be irradiated under specific conditions and with stipulated doses. Once they have been irradiated at IMOMA, they are sent back to be verified and a report is emitted relating the deviations found, the radiation is evaluated at either optimum, correct, acceptable, slightly incorrect or serious deviation levels.
IMOMA has submitted the high and low dose brachytherapy treatments and also the photon beams of the linear accelerator TrueBeamSTx powered by Novalis to this test, becoming one of the first European centres to pass this audit using the new flattening filter free beams.
In all cases, the result has been considered "optimum" by the evaluating agency, guaranteeing that the treatments available at IMOMA are delivered with maximum quality and metrologic traceability.
